Round 1 Match Reports

Team 1 Vs. Team 2

The first game of the 2005 spring league was a hum-dinger. Under the searing April sun, the game started at a hectic pace and continued at this pace for the full 50 minutes. Team 1, wearing the yellow shirts, sprung out to a quick 5 point lead. After a longer than expected ‘settling down’ period, team 2 in the white shirts, clawed their way back to just a few points at the half. At half time, team 2 rejuvenated themselves and started the second half very well, jumping out into the lead. Numerous lead changes followed and with 5 minutes left team 2 had a 5 point lead. Team 2 began to feel the effects of the sun and became visibly tired. Sensing this, team 1 surged forward and succeeded in scoring 2 quick goals to win by the narrowest of margins. Final score: 4-16 [28] to 6-9 [27].

Team 1 Vs. Team 3

After just 10 minutes rest, team 1 had to do it all over again, this time against a very strong team 3. The fresher team 3 brought the game to their opponents from the start and raced into a huge led. Team 1 tried to stay in touch, but team 3 was simply too strong and commanded a big lead at the half. At the break, team 1 acknowledged that the only way to play the physically stronger team 3 was through smart team play. Their approach to the second half exemplified good team play. As a result, team 1 outscored team 3 in the second half, but the lead team 3 built up was too great. Team 3 won well. Final score: 2-14 [20] to 0-10 [10].
